As an independent label Savoy recorded a virtual "who's who" of jump-blues, r&b, be-bop and hard-bop from June '44 to May '59. Many jazz illuminaries are represented here such as Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie as well as Milt Jackson, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Miles Davis, Bud Powell and the list goes on and on. Whether you're considering purchasing this compilation as an introductory to the post-war jazz era or you're familiar with these great artists and wish to add to your existing collection you won't be dissapointed. Also, check out Slim Galliard's "Slim's Jam" you'll fall over laughing at Slim's "Voo-Rooty" intro to Charlie "Yardird" Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. This cut alone is worth the price of admission.
