UK compilation for the English organist/vocalist who first found fame in the British Invasion era with his jazzy renditions of R&B & ska. This is the first time Fame's period on Pye Records from 1978-80 is compiled on CD. 20 tracks from his albums, 'Right Now', 'That's What Friends Are For' (both 1979) & 'Closing the Gap' (1980). It includes two singles for the label, 'A Different Dream', & 'Maybe Tomorrow', plus reworkings of his 60's classics. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Listener Reviews & Comments
This lovely complilation of Georgie Fame's Pye years is well worth getting. The musicianship and recording is all excellent and the title track is worth the price on its own. The reason I've given it 4 stars rather than 5 is that this isn't Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames. I think these tracks were recorded in the 70's and quite a few of the them bury his great voice with uneccessary multi-tracking and layers of strings and horns. That said sometimes this works really well, such as on the fun "I'm in love with you baby". Certainly the Jazz influence on Georgie is completely unrepresented on these recordings. However overall this is a fine, largely laid-back collection, which captures Georgie Fame at a mid-point in his career and it represents that really well.
