When I first listened to this soundtrack, I was underwhelmed. As usual, there's a pretty melody as Barry can churn these out in his sleep and there's a few hot moments where there must have been action on the screen, but I probably wouldn't have listened to it again. Until I saw the movie. As expressed elsewhere, the film isn't great (though you'll have seen worse), but the music was, in a word "perfect," perhaps one of the most perfect scores I've ever heard. And yes, the music is noticeable throughout, but rather than being unobtrusive, it adds (as Bernard Herrmann) says, the cement the film needed. So good was the marriage of music to film that back out came the CD and my appreciation of it has only grown. Another Barry fan had pretty much the same experience as I, so if you get this CD and aren't that jazzed, see the movie, and I'm sure that CD will be a treasure to you.
