Listener Reviews & Comments This album is just as much Kaz Lux as Jan Akkerman. Kaz Lux wrote the lyrics and also contributed to compositions. The album consists of songs, interrupted twice by instrumental passages. Keyboards are frequently used, piano's as well as sythesizers. The best of Dutch pop music of the seventies lend their hand to this album (for instance keyboard player Rick van der Linden and another keyboard player, Jasper van 't Hof, in Germany often defined with the honorary title "Tastenvirtuos"). It is a song cycle about a hero called Eli, a simple man who leads a simple life as a woodman, somewhere, sometime. It tells about his life, his dreams, fears etc. I always found the atmosphere of the songs dejected. But you will not recover the sombreness of a Wuthering Heights, the desolation of David Sylvain or the nihilism of Nirvana, there is little evil in the air, it deals more with the sadness of the sober life of a sober man. There is also a song about August Strindberg and although there is no clear connection between that song and the Eli songs, there is somehow a unity not only in the music but as well as in the theme of the lyrics. The style of the music can maybe be described as "European funk"; stirred up rhythms played by a strong tandem of drums with bass, but far more austere than the real funky stuff, alternated with quiet compositions consisting of "Wings of Strings" (guitars and keyboards), which could maybe the best described as contemporary music as such. I think that it is a classical album, worthy to be discovered.
